Side Dishes, The Makings of a Meal and Desserts

What makes a side dish a side dish?

If you’re ever like me, I like to make a meal of several small dishes. Nibbles, tasting, noshing, sharing. The classic around my home is the Clean Out The Fridge lunch or occasional dinner. We love it since there are bits of this and that, one bite here and another there. It’s a great way to keep things fresh, safe, and rotating through. This applies for the fridge, cabinets, canned goods, and any countertop volunteers like fresh fruit.

Beer is a most willing participant in these exercises as well. What a great way to *finally* open that one can or bottle or homebrew beer and give it a go. I also find the best way to really enjoy this COTF is to invite a friend or five over to help you, depending on the amount of delicious odds and random ends of flavorful edibles.

Ginger WEBIt gets better. What if said friends brought over the bits and bites they had that they wanted to finish off too?! The more the tastier – it becomes an impromptu party, casually easy, and super economical.

Still getting better….do this with desserts as well. Maybe you have a half-quart of ice cream that’s begging to be bowled, a few slices of cake ready to shake, and pudding that’s chillin’.

And again, beer is an excellent mate to desserts. The available variety of beers to pair with desserts of all sorts is happily mind blowing at a minimum! One of my favorite things about tasting beer and food together is that the combinations are infinite and the opportunities are abundant.

Go, clean, explore, share. Talk about making everyone happy….

Till the next glass ~

Pairing Suggestion: One of the most unique and seemingly quirky pairings I love to experiment with is beer and pickles. Any thing pickled! The flavors of various beers will be full of big surprises for everyone.

Events: Head to the Bellevue Brewing tasting on 5/22 at 630 hosted at the Seattle Beer Authority in their beerific new space. Watch for events at SBA every week. Tell the fun & beer savvy owner Burc I sent you!
