I have the pleasure of looking out the back window of my home and viewing one of Spooner Farm’s massive pumpkin patches. Each day as I look out and see how much larger the pumpkins have grown it is a visual reminder that fall has arrived. Soon those pumpkins will line the farms’ entrance, the corn maze will rise and eager children will arrive with their parents in tow to choose the perfect shaped one for the family jack-o-lantern.
With the cooling weather and turning of the leaves, I look forward to peach, apple and pumpkin desserts laced with cinnamon and cloves. It simply seemed natural when searching for the perfect cocktail this week from Shaun the Bartender’s archives, to choose an ode to autumn.
Caramel Apple Martini
- 1 1/2 oz. Vodka
- 3/4 oz. Sour Apple Pucker
- 3/4 oz. Butterscotch Schnapps
Method: In a mixing glass with ice, pour in the measured amounts of all the ingredients. Cap off and shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a slice of apple.
The county fairs are in full swing this time of year. These places are where you can enjoy the farm animals, the carnival ride and games, and let’s not forget the unhealthy but tasty food. Nothing like an Elephant Ear doused with powdered sugar along with the French fries soaked in malt vinegar. -Shaun Daugherty
