Why do you have so many roses? Ask a winemaker Wednesday

We had a great question come through the DM this last week regarding the vineyard.

Join us each Wednesday as we share Marty and Ryan Johnson’s answers to their, “Ask a Winemaker Wednesday” over at Ruby Magdalena Vineyards.

“Why do have so many roses?”

Roses serve as an indicator species.

Think canary in a coal mine…⁣⁣Roses are very sensitive to pests: aphids and thrips, and issues such as powdery mildew, downy mildew and rust as well as mineral and nutrient deficiencies.

When we see the roses showing signs of an issue, it tells us it’s time for us to take action. We can attend to the vineyard’s needs BEFORE the problems move into the vineyard. And they smell so wonderful!!!

Read last week’s question here.

Do you want to learn something about

  • Winemaking?
  • Grape growing?
  • How we farm the land?
  • Our garden?
  • Why we do the things we do?
  • Or even that quirky couple, Marty & Ryan???

You can find Marty, Ryan and Magdalena Vineyards on FacebookInstagram and of course at rubymagdalenavineyards.com
