Food and Wine Magazine’s Ray Isle Talks BBQ and Civil War Wine on William Shatner’s ‘Brown Bag’

William Shatner and Ray Isle on 'Brown Bag'William Shatner’s Brown Bag has been our obsession since its debut on Ora.TV last year. Now in its second season, airing Wednesday’s at 2 pm EST, this series is informative, entertaining and gives us a view of celebrities we do not generally see in standard interviews.

The episode we have chosen to highlight  is with Executive Wine Editor of “Food & Wine Magazine” Ray Isle. Joining  Shatner for an interview they discuss a mutual spicy passion, BBQ and Isle adds a bit of adventure to the ‘Brown Bag’ tasting as he explains how he tasted wine from a Civil War blockade runner shipwreck, which puts this bottle at the approximate 200 year old mark.

Isle went on to cleverly describe this episode’s brown bagged mystery wine in writing terms.  “Even though it’s a red wine, I would say it’s black ink. It’s not blue ink or red ink. It’s black ink. It’s really dark, it’s intense.” and adds, “its not computerized, it’s handwritten”. Are you curious? Watch it here.

The new Ora TV web series Brown Bag Wine Tasting follows Shatner’s adventures as he asks willing participants to blindly taste wine and describe it in terms of their occupations, with the goal of making the show fun, interactive and a social experience. The series was created out of Shatner’s love of wine and conversation, as well as wanting to have a fun wine tasting experience in an entertaining format. “I’m using wine as a way to explore the psyche of each of my guests,” William Shatner, the legendary Star Trek captain explains. The original series is executive produced by Shatner and Scott Sternberg who will continue in his role as the series expands with Ora TV with the addition of Ora TV executive producer Jason Rovou.
