White wines from the Rhone are a great departure from single varietal whites. They can be lively, crisp and fun to pair with a variety of foods. Fortunately for the consumer, this style of wine is produced in different regions of the world, with blends of Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Picpoul.

A wine directly from the Rhone that I always find to be enjoyable is the Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf Du Pape Blanc. A wine blended primarily with Roussanne and a splash of Grenache Blanc. This wine delivers. With aromas of floral and honey and on the palate, smooth and elegant, this is the quintessential Rhone white. Serve this with a lighter grilled fish for an unforgettable taste experience.

Zerba Columbia Valley Wild White

Bringing this style of wine a little closer to home is the Zerba Columbia Valley Wild White. A well balanced, approachable wine consisting of Chardonnay, Roussanne, Semillon and Viognier. Quite honestly, this wine is delicious on its own but grill up chicken or Halibut and this selection will not disappoint. For those of you who know wines from Washington State, Zerba Cellars is a producer of the highest quality. Check this wine out, you will find it will not disappoint.

Finally, a wine that is a pleasure to drink is the Solms Delta Amalie, a blend of Viognier and Grenache Blanc, from South Africa. A bit of spice in this wine yet it is complex and finishes creamy.  A must with Clams, as it offers a mineral profile which South African wines can show.  Seek this wine out and enjoy!

If this particular style of white wine is something you have not tried, please do. They have layers, complexity and great mouth feel, not to mention the food pairing potential they offer. Enjoy!!

Cheers until next time.
