Eleanor Friedberger plays the holiday classic “Auld Lang Syne”

This holiday season, Segura Viudas invites you to celebrate with friends old and new, and to reflect back on the wonderful memories that each year has brought. With the season officially upon us, Segura Viudas is spreading holiday cheer with its 2015 holiday commercial, following in the footsteps of its parent company, The Freixenet Group.

Freixenet became a pop culture icon in Spain thanks to its annual “Felices Fiestas” ad campaign, dating back to its first ad in 1977 with superstar Liza Minnelli. With this innovative concept, the company ushered in a new era in advertising, inviting international superstars, many of whom had never been to Spain, to be the seasonal spokesperson for its Cava. To this day, the Spanish public wonders in anticipation: which celebrity will offer the Freixenet toast this year? Over the years, this honor has been bestowed on the likes of Gene Kelly, Shirley McLaine, Paul Newman, Kim Basinger, Penélope Cruz, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Shakira, among many others.

This Segura Viudas holiday commercial features indie rock artist Eleanor Friedberger playing the holiday classic “Auld Lang Syne” using flutes filled with Segura Viudas Cava, ahead of her imminent album release and tour this winter. The spot was produced by Segura Viudas brand manager Josep Ferrer, who is also a 4th generation member of the family that founded Freixenet. “It’s been an honor to follow in the footsteps of my grandfather and father in producing this holiday themed ad for one of our younger brands,” he said of the spot. “I took a page from their book and hired the best talent I could to help spread the holiday cheer. This is an indie answer to the classic Freixenet ads, made for the internet generation.” The video will run on the brand’s social media sites, as well as in several digital advertising formats. “My grandparents were able to attend the shoot, and they were very excited to know that this commercial will be viewable around the world thanks to the internet.”
