Wines for Dad; A Father’s Day Celebration by Jack Chase

Jack ChaseWell Dad, the big day is coming quickly. No, not Friday, Father’s Day. This is a dedication not only to my Father but to all you Dad’s out there. Your dedication and patience is appreciated and I can’t think of a better way to salute you than a day together with a few amazing wines. Since every Dad is different, let’s throw out a few options for these amazing men.

AronaCouch Potato Dad (quiet kids, the game is on)–  When it is game time, who has time to pull a cork? You might miss a big play. Solution. How about the Arona Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand? As a special surprise for Dad, create a nice Curry dish with a little heat. This wine will be a nice accompaniment. A fresh, fruit forward wine with citrus notes and a hint of grass in the profile, Dad will not be disappointed with this pairing. Especially while watching the game.

Hence CellarsThis is my Day Dad (you know how I like my Steak, right?)- This guy has worked hard. He loves grilling on the weekends, riding his bike, heading out on the boat, you get the picture. He is all things grilled but for Father;s Day, someone needs to step up and take over on the grill today. “OK, we have this covered Dad. Yes, I know how you like your steak. Can I get you a glass of wine”? Might I suggest a Malbec from Hence Cellars? Dark, layered and complex. This beauty from Walla Walla will cut through that steak like the finest knife in the house. With balanced tannins and flavors of dark cherries and plums, this wine will put a big smile on Dad’s face, especially if grill that steak just right.

Holloran VineyardsUnder the Radar Dad (Hoping we forget Father’s Day)- Sorry, we can’t forget what you have done for us Dad. This is your day and we wouldn’t forget. This guy never expects anything. He just goes about his daily routine and doesn’t want anyone to fuss over him. What do you do for a guy like this? You know he likes grilled Salmon. Well I can pull that off without screwing it up. Maybe a little Copper River Salmon would make his day? OK, got that down, now which wine to pair? Perhaps a Pinot Noir from Holloran Vineyards in Oregon. This small production winery is producing great wines. A fruit forward Pinot that dances in the glass. A special wine for Dad that will simply rock with a little salmon from the Copper River. Dad will enjoy this one for sure.

This is a dedication not only to my Father but to all you Dad’s out there. Your dedication and patience is appreciated and I can’t think of a better way to salute you than a day together with a few amazing wines.

To all of you amazing Father’s out there, thank you. The least we can do is share a great bottle of wine and some good food together.

Until next time,

Cheers!!!
