Mulholland Dalmation
Ingredients
- 2 ounces Mulholland Vodka
- 6 ounces fresh grapefruit juice
- .5-ounces black pepper simple syrup
Directions
Black Pepper Simple Syrup
Prepare the black pepper simple syrup. To make the syrup, you will need equal parts water and granulated sugar, along with black pepper. In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon black pepper. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar has dissolved completely. Remove from heat and let it cool. Strain out the black pepper using a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth. Set aside.

- Squeeze fresh grapefruit juice. Take 2 to 3 medium-sized grapefruits and cut them in half. Using a citrus juicer or a manual reamer, extract the juice from the grapefruits. Strain the juice to remove any pulp or seeds. Measure 6 ounces of fresh grapefruit juice and set it aside.
- In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 ounces of Mulholland Vodka, 6 ounces of fresh grapefruit juice, and 1/2 ounce of the black pepper simple syrup.
- Fill the cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Securely close the shaker.
- Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to thoroughly chill the drink and mix the flavors.
- Prepare your serving glass. If you prefer a salted rim, rub a grapefruit wedge around the rim of a glass and dip it into a plate with kosher salt, pepper or rimming salt. This step is optional and depends on your personal preference.
- Strain the cocktail mixture from the shaker into the prepared glass. You can use a Hawthorne strainer or a fine-mesh strainer to achieve a smooth pour without any ice or pulp.
- Garnish the cocktail. You can add a grapefruit wedge or a twist of grapefruit peel to the rim of the glass for an extra touch of presentation. Optionally, you can also sprinkle a pinch of freshly ground black pepper on top of the drink for an added flavor accent.
