Holiday weekends are a fantastic way to connect with friends and family that we seem to lose touch with during the regular work weeks. While we will be enjoying the company of loved ones, we will not forget what this holiday, Memorial Day is set aside for. The remembrance of the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. – wikipediea
The purchase of new and cleaning of old grills has been on many lists for this week as folks gear up for backyard barbecues. Next weekend is a long weekend that will showcase grilling styles, with great foods, brews, wines and cocktails. Have you finalized your menu yet? Even if you have, there is always room for an addition or two. And while you are going over details for next weekend, here is a bit of a tropical “mood smoother”, to make the journey just a tad more enjoyable.

Cuban Martini
- 2 oz. Rum (Your Choice of what kind)
- 1/2 oz. Dry Vermouth
- 1 Tsp Sugar or 1/2 oz. Simple Syrup
Method: In a mixing glass with ice, pour in the rum and dry vermouth. Add the sugar. Cap off with a tin and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Take a lemon rind and twist it over the glass to allow the oils from the rind disperse onto the drink. Rub the twist on the rim before dropping into the drink.
By the way, this drink is not for those who are trying to mask the flavor of the booze. This is for those true imbibers who appreciate the flavor of a good spirit with a cocktail.
I do recommend that you take a moment and watch Shaun concoct this little beauty right here. Also, pop over to his site and hit the follow button. There is a new cocktail every day for your imbibing and entertaining pleasure.

I know I would enjoy your cocktail…I love a good rum drink.
Oh so do I. That’s why I chose the Cuban Martini this week ~ reminds me of an island with white sands and warm waters :)
On this windy and cool day, that sounds nice. :)
I like Cubans. I like martinis. Gotta try this.
