Outdoor adventures in an idyllic autumn setting await
In the autumn, the mountains and forests of West Virginia come alive with spectacular colors, and the most exciting way to experience the fall foliage is ziplining through the mountains and over the gorges in southern West Virginia. As the third most forested state, West Virginia provides a lush tableau of colors that are especially vibrant for fall travelers.
Fly 300 feet in the air under a canopy of leaves, and as you zip from tree to tree you can see for a mile across the Mountain State. The cooler weather in the fall makes it the perfect time to zipline, and Pipestem offers breathtaking views as visitors sail on lines that cross over the Bluestone River Gorge three times at speeds up to 50 mph. Nine ziplines up to 1,700 feet in length, have travelers ‘sailing’ September through the end of October, the perfect time to experience peak fall colors at Pipestem Adventures, open through October 31st.
Pipestem State Park is an adventurer’s paradise. In addition to ziplining, visitors can enjoy other adventures such as hiking, mountain biking, archery and skeet shooting As the autumn forests explode with rich colors of red, orange, and yellow, West Virginia’s beautiful vistas engage the senses with their visual splendor, the scents of fall and the sound crunching leaves as you walk forested paths.
Among the prime destinations for leaf peeping is the state’s only National Park – the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. The second week in October is the ideal time to view the colors in the most photographed and iconic sites in the state and for six weekends September through October, serious rafters from around the world visit West Virginia to take on the challenge of whitewater rafting on the Gauley River. During this distinct time of year, the dam at Summersville Lake is released, creating guaranteed flow on the Gauley River. The river consists of two distinct sections –The Upper and Lower Gauley – and each is typically run separately as a full day trip.

Guests will get the chance to take restorative and expanding classes for the mind, body, and soul–with some of goop’s favorite practitioners
Celebrity Cruises and goop today announced it is furthering its partnership by bringing some of goop’s favorite practitioners on board for a series of four Caribbean sailings this fall.
Kicking off in October, goop practitioners and experts will lead exclusive programming, including workouts and mindfulness sessions with a goal of enriching guests’ collective well-being while aboard the new luxury brand’s most exquisite ships.
The two company’s partnership was announced in January 2020 and has continued to evolve. In April 2021, goop’s founder and CEO Gwyneth Paltrow was announced as Celebrity’s Well-being Advisor. The goop team has curated new wellness offerings for Celebrity’s ships including fitness kits for AquaClass guests, on-demand wellness classes on stateroom TVs, a custom smoothie and more.
“As our guests have returned to travel, they’ve expressed how sailing has been a source of healing for them after a very challenging year,” said Celebrity Cruises President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo. “Nowhere else can guests experience this powerful confluence of the serenity of the sea with physical and emotional wellness.”
“Physical, mental, and spiritual well-being are inextricably connected—and how fun to explore all, on the water, in the Caribbean,” said Kiki Koroshetz, goop’s Senior Wellness Director and contributor to Celebrity’s Women in Wellness group. “We look forward to sharing the wisdom of an incredible group of teachers with Celebrity Cruises’ guests.”
Eager travelers can engage with goop’s roster of experts as they learn of the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of today’s modern traveler. Curated by goop, the practitioners include:
Dana Childs – An intuitive energy healer, author, and teacher. Dana leads workshops, online courses, and retreats to help others learn to open their own intuitive gifts.
Colette Dong – A New York City native with a BFA in dance performance and choreography and a BS in dance science from Elon University, Colette is founder of the ness, New York’s premier workout studio for trampoline cardio and muscle sculpting.
Tina Jackson – A classically trained dancer, fitness model, fashion stylist, and movement curator, her classes invoke a deep sense of celebration, authenticity, faith, courage, expression, and freedom.
Deganit Nuur – A renowned spiritual teacher, clairvoyant intuitive, acupuncturist, writer, and speaker. For 15 years, Deganit has been devoted to guiding people in finding peace and purpose through her writing, courses, apprenticeship, events, and sessions.
Drea Wheeler – A luxury fitness expert who holds 12 different fitness certifications (and a degree in criminology!) and is best known for her trademarked Bodylicious™ classes.
Playing host to these extraordinary health and wellness experts will be Celebrity’s new-luxury cruise ships. The four-sailing itinerary features:
Celebrity Summit – Sailing out of Miami on October 9 for a 5-night cruise, this sailing will feature Colette Dong and Deganit Nuur.
Celebrity Apex – Dana Childs and Tina Jackson will headline this 4-night cruise departing Fort Lauderdale, FL on October 24

The turtle that went through rigorous testing, many recipe tweaks and extensive sampling was perfected by the renowned chefs at Destination Kohler and blessed by Kohler Co.
Today, the original Terrapins have become the foundation for a thriving chocolates business that refuses to clutter the marketplace, and seeks to explore limitless opportunity in taste with natural raw ingredients. The Terrapins have since been expanded into four delicious varieties and the company has continued to diversify its line of chocolates.
In 2016, Kohler Co. entered a new market with the launch of the KOHLER Original Recipe Chocolates Brandy; the spirit is naturally infused with Kohler’s dark chocolate, providing an unmatched spirits taste and experience.

The storied hotel is now flying a Four Seasons flag, with beautifully restored spaces filled with historic details, a stunning clifftop infinity pool, world-class dining, signature Four Seasons service and only-in-Sicily experiences
Just in time for the much-anticipated return of the high season in southern Italy, a landmark hotel is debuting a fresh new look and an invitation to experience it all. San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel is now open. Slideshow at bottom of article.
The legendary San Domenico Palace was already very well known to us at Four Seasons,” notes Christian Clerc, President, Global Operations. “It is an exceptional property in every way, and we are honoured to have been chosen once again by our owner-partners Gruppo Statuto to manage such an important property, and to add to our growing collection of transformed historic hotels in Italy and around the Mediterranean.”
With spectacular views in every direction, San Domenico Palace is uniquely situated between the majesty of Mount Etna above, the deep blue waters of the Ionian Sea below, and the beautiful south-eastern coast of Sicily as far as the eye can see.
“Everything past guests have always loved about San Domenico Palace has been restored, with familiar faces and vistas at every turn,” says General Manager Lorenzo Maraviglia, who has returned to his home country following years abroad to introduce Four Seasons to Sicily for the first time.
“It’s been a meticulous evolution that honours the site’s past while elevating every aspect to a new level of personalised service, extraordinary experiences, and the opportunity to create memories to last a lifetime. We are incredibly grateful to Gruppo Statuto for their investment and proud of the fact that it’s an Italian company that undertook this massive renovation project using only local craftspeople. This is Italy at its best.”
Bentornati: Welcome Back
With just 111 guest rooms and suites, the atmosphere is intimate, as though returning to a treasured friend’s seaside home each year. The most coveted room is the Royal Suite, with principal rooms all opening onto a large terrace and plunge pool with views of Mount Etna, the ancient Greek Theatre and the Ionian Sea. Terraces are lined with glass for infinity views, and in all, there are 19 rooms with private plunge pools.
Built on the site of a 14th century Dominican convent, the San Domenico Hotel first came to life in 1896 with the addition of a new building in Italian Liberty style (today’s Grand Hotel Wing) adjacent to accommodations converted from former quarters in the Ancient Convent Wing. It soon became a highlight on the Grand Tour, favoured by royalty and nobility and increasingly, a colourful cast of artists, writers and Hollywood stars. Set amid lush gardens reimagined by acclaimed Italian landscape architect Marco Bay with sweeping sea views, the Hotel pairs contemporary art with antiquities and architectural relics throughout.
This Summer in Sicily
Travellers will find that most of Sicily has reopened, from the designer shops and charming outdoor trattorias in the town of Taormina to artistic venues such as the steps-away ancient Greek Theatre, where a full calendar of musical performances are planned throughout summer. Beach clubs are open, with guests of Four Seasons receiving special access to one of the most popular clubs. The concierge team is happy to offer recommendations or arrange bespoke itineraries for guests who wish to explore, including wine tastings, scenic hikes, architecture and history tours, and boat excursions to the famous Grotta Azzura of Isola Bella with a chef-prepared picnic spread to enjoy along the way.
“We’ve also created a number of very special experiences for our guests, including day-long helicopter and yacht tours of the fascinating Aeolian Islands north of Sicily, including Panarea, Stromboli and Salina,” says Assistant Chef Concierge Roberta Maria Cariola. “Within the Hotel, our Art Concierge will take guests on a journey through 700 years of art, architecture and fascinating stories. Our Sala della Grande Madia, the former convent’s refectory, is now a gallery displaying San Domenico’s most important treasures.”
More to look forward to: San Domenico Palace opens annually from April through to the end of October, with spring and fall offering milder weather and fewer crowds.
“The annual wine harvest on the Etna is always cause for celebration, and our concierge team can arrange opportunities for guests to join in the fun,” says Roberta. “In addition to trekking on Mount Etna, we recommend spring as the ideal time to explore other towns along the coast. In the port city of Catania, food lovers won’t want to miss the weekly fish market and the surrounding seafood restaurants. Further down the coast, Syracuse is known for its ancient ruins, with the Archaeological Park Neapolis in the centre of town being a great place to start. Another lovely day trip – don’t worry, we’ll pack a lunch for you! – is Noto, with its historic palaces and Baroque cathedral.”
Buon Appetito: San Domenico Palace as a Culinary Destination
The rebirth of the San Domenico Palace also heralds the return of Principe Cerami to Sicily’s thriving culinary and viticulture scene, where Executive Chef Massimo Mantarro’s menu is inspired by the very land where he grew up on the slope of Mount Etna. True to his roots but always experimenting, Chef Massimo’s genius can be savoured best in his #FSMasterdish, pasta e seppia. This clever combination of fresh ingredients marries sea and earth in marinated cuttlefish tagliatelle perched atop homemade spaghetti with cuttlefish ink afloat courgette blossom fondue. Paired with a glass of local wine selected by Head Sommelier Alessandro Malfitana, it’s Sicily on a plate.
Additional dining experiences include Rosso, where a large terrace affords panoramic views of Mount Etna and Taormina Bay as a setting to enjoy local specialties and international classics; and the poolside Anciovi, where the menu celebrates the bounty of the sea, and where creative cocktails can be enjoyed long after the sun goes down. In the garden setting of Bar & Chiostro, drinks are best paired with light fare, including the must-try pennette served in the local “Norma” style with aubergine and ricotta cheese.
Not to be missed are the exquisite creations of Chef de Patisserie Vincenzo Abagnale, who joins Four Seasons following four years with Chef Mauro Colagreco at three Michelin-starred Mirazur in France, that was ranked #1 on the list of World’s Best Restaurants in 2019.
Memorable Events at Four Seasons
In the captivating setting that combines hundreds of years of history with the drama of an active volcano, events at San Domenico Palace are always memorable. Now, with the expert touch of Four Seasons event planners and the catering team, it’s a fantastic choice for inspired corporate retreats, fairy-tale weddings or simply gathering family and friends for a much-needed reunion in the sun.
More than 1,700 square metres (18,300 square feet) of indoor-outdoor event spaces can be tailored for gatherings from a dozen to several hundred guests. Wedding couples, event hosts and meeting planners are invited to contact firstname.lastname@example.org to beginning planning.
Join Us in Continuing to Write the Story of San Domenico Palace

This summer, Host Padi Boyd, a NASA astrophysicist, guides listeners through NASA’s missions, projects, and people. Season three visits a wide range of tour stops along NASA’s journeys in science and spaceflight, and each episode is an invitation to an adventure with a NASA expert.
Listeners will traverse the Antarctic ice sheets with climate scientists, go “planet-hunting” with exoplanet researchers, and spend a day living and working in space with NASA astronauts. New episodes will be released every Monday through August 30.
NASA’s Curious Universe first debuted in March 2020 and has previously released 15 episodes focused on a range of topics, from asteroids to solar science. In February 2021, the show became the first podcast to feature microphone-recorded audio from Mars, collected by NASA’s Perseverance rover during landing.
NASA’s Curious Universe is for everyone and doesn’t require any prior knowledge of NASA or its missions. First-time explorers welcome!
Record Demand For Private Jet Flights To Continue, According To A New Survey of Private Aviation Users
69% of current private aviation users expect to fly more post-Covid than prior to the pandemic; 53% of new private aviation users will continue private flights on a regular basis after the pandemic; 100% retention rate for new users
Demand for private jet travel will continue at record levels, according to a new survey by Private Jet Card Comparisons
Half of the current private aviation users said they had started or re-started private flying due to Covid, and 100% of these new private flyers say they plan to continue after the pandemic. More than half (53%) said they would fly privately regularly even after the pandemic, a 29% increase from 41% who said they would continue private flights regularly in a January survey of subscribers.
“If the question is, will new users stick with private aviation even in a post-Covid world, the answer is a unanimous yes, with many (53%) saying they will now use private aviation regularly,” said Doug Gollan, Founder, and Editor-in-Chief of buyer’s guide Private Jet Card Comparisons.
‘The Flight Of The Monarch Butterfly – The Pollinator Project’ To Air On Discovery, Science Channel And Animal Planet
Most known for their winter and spring migrations spanning more than 3,000 miles, the monarch butterfly is a small but key component to the ecosystem in terms of food and its role as a pollinator. “The Flight of the Monarch Butterfly – The Pollinator Project” will explore the latest science, learnings and the species’ survival issues in its world premiere Sunday, July 25 at 8:30 a.m. (ET/PT) on Discovery, Thursday, July 29 at 5 p.m. (ET/PT) on the Science Channel and Saturday, July 31 at 8 a.m. (ET/PT) on Animal Planet.
With exclusive access arranged by the Mexican Minister of Tourism, the program highlights the monarchs’ dramatic journey throughout North America and examines scientists’ concerns about the species’ diminishing numbers due to pollution and climate fluctuations. It also addresses what the declining population could mean for the future of the broader ecosystem.
“Sustainability is at the heart of our decision making,” said Kevin Butt, Toyota Motor North America’s environmental sustainability director. “As we plan, build and manage our facilities across North America, we proactively learn about local species and study how to minimize the disruption of their natural habitats – environmental stewardship then helps drive a culture of conservation beyond our company walls.”
The program also examines what American companies have created in the pathway of the butterflies’ northern flight pattern – a habitat rich with milkweed plants – and issues a call to action for interested people to get involved through local and national clubs and organizations that make their journey easier.
Presented as one example helping to save, protect and nurture the monarch butterflies migration to North America, the program explores Toyota’s 17 pollinator gardens throughout its North American operations and shows how they provide food and shelter to critical pollinator species, including the monarch butterflies at various stages of their life cycle along the seasonal migration path.
Viewers will have the opportunity to see it on the following broadcasts. Check local listings:
Sunday, July 25 at 8:30 a.m. (EDT & PDT)
