Cool off with Tommy Bahama’s refreshing Cucumber Smash

Garden Party season. Those three words send a  thrill through my soul with their implication. Late afternoon barbecues and picnics that deliciously turn into evening soirees under twinkle lights and stars. Barbecue and beer are replaced with light appetizers, dessert, wine and dazzling cocktails.

Light and refreshing is on the menu this time of year, and Tommy Bahama has the recipe to please. Sit back, relax and enjoy the evening with a cool, cucumber twist on the classic cocktail.


Cucumber Smash

SONY DSCIngredients

  • 1 ¾ parts Hendricks® Gin
  • ¾ part St-Germain® Elderflower Liqueur
  • ½ part simple syrup
  • ½ part lime juice
  • 4 cucumber cubes, each ¾
  • ½ part club soda
  • 2 cucumber slices
  •  Glassware: Double Rocks
  • Ice: Cubes
  • Garnish: 2 cucumber slices

Instructions: Muddle cucumber cubes with lime juice in a mixing glass, add gin, St-Germain, simple syrup and ice. Mix and strain over fresh ice, top with soda and garnish with 2 cucumber slices.

Mother Nature brings such luscious bounty in the summer months, and it’s pure pleasure to browse stands, farms and markets during this season to  choose fresh fruits and vegetables from their over flowing bins.

When Shaun the Bartender posted this fresh, crisp beauty, I knew this would be our choice for Friday’s post.

Vegan Cocktail

  • 1 1/2 oz. Vodka
  • Two Slices of Cucumber
  • 2 – 3 Mint Leaves
  • Carrot Juice

Garnish:  A cucumber wheel, stalk of celery and orange slice.

Method:  Take two cucumber slices, two mint leaves and the measured amount of vodka and pour it into a highball glass.  Muddle the contents, making sure to grind the mint and cucumber enough to disperse their flavors into the vodka.  This should take at least 30 seconds.  Fill with ice, then top off with carrot juice.  Stir well, then add the celery stalk.  Place the cucumber wheel and orange slice on the side of the glass.

I am happy to introduce the Vegan.  It’s something I came up with last year for a promotional that I thought you may like to enjoy with that three egg breakfast with bacon and hashbrowns.  Who needs the Mimosas and Bloody Marys?  If you like carrots and cucumbers you are in for a treat! -Shaun Daugherty
